HTK Safety Systems LLC (HTK) was founded in 2016 to develop products that make trucking safer for pedestrians, drivers, property and the public. HTK’s first product is a fully patented solution to one of the most dangerous problems of the trucking industry - rollaways. Truck rollaways generally occur because drivers forget to set the parking brakes or do not set them properly. In some cases, trucks that make frequent stops have a service/work brake that is only meant to temporarily hold the truck in place on flat surfaces. Misuse of this brake causes rollaways.
Every year thousands of truck rollaways occur in the U.S. alone. Rollaways cost trucking companies millions of dollars each year in damages, litigation costs and insurance premiums.
With the HTK system installed, if the truck driver forgets to set the parking brake, the system, which leverages the patented Flexpoint Sensor Systems seat occupancy or platform occupancy Bend Sensor® technology (www.flexpoint.com), will automatically engage the parking brake and/or work brake if the driver leaves the seat, preventing the truck from rolling away and causing property damage, injury and/or death.

To avoid any unintended braking while driving, a degree of advanced automation has been designed into the system whereby the system automatically deactivates after the truck accelerates to a predetermined speed (for example 5-7 MPH) and then reactivates when the truck decelerates below that predetermined speed.
